Privacy
Updated on 5 October 2026
In short
- The calendar can be browsed without an account: no personal data is asked for.
- With an account, we only keep what is needed to run it: username, email address, password (encrypted) and what you enter yourself (walks, shoes, calendar).
- Your data is never sold and we do not use it for targeted advertising. Your email address is never shown.
- You can delete your account at any time, together with all your data.
Data we keep
Walker account (optional)
- Username and email address (login, forgotten password, address confirmation);
- password, stored only in encrypted form (unreadable, even to us);
- if you enter them: first name, last name, club, carried-over km, language;
- what you log: walks done (distances, time, elevation, weather, comments…), personal walks, shoes, calendar;
- the date of your last login.
Visiting the site
To count visits, the site computes an anonymous daily fingerprint (IP address and browser, mixed and made unreadable). It is only used not to count the same visitor twice in a day and is deleted the following night. No visitor profile is built. The host also keeps its usual technical logs (IP address, page requested) for server security.
Use and sharing
Your data is only used to run the site: logging you in, showing your log, statistics and calendar, and sending the emails you ask for (registration, forgotten password, change of address).
It is neither sold nor rented. Only the essential technical providers have access to it: the host of the site and database (OVHcloud, servers in the European Union) and the email service (Brevo, European Union), which only receives the recipient's address and the message.
Third-party services
- Google AdSense: advertising funds the site. Google may use cookies to show ads and measure them; in the European Union, Google asks for your consent with its own message. More information: policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
- Google Maps: the map of a walk only loads if you click “Show map” (or chose to always show maps); Google then sets its cookies.
- External links (club and federation websites, Facebook): those sites have their own rules.
App
The Marcher en Belgique app (home screen or Google Play) shows the same site: the same rules apply. For offline reading it keeps a copy of the last public pages viewed on your phone; your account pages are never kept and the copies are deleted when you log out. The app does not access your location, contacts or photos.
Retention
Your account data is kept as long as the account exists and deleted as soon as it is removed. Links sent by email expire after 1 hour (password) or 48 hours (address). Visit fingerprints are deleted every night.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you can access, correct or delete your data and object to its use. Most of this can be done directly in My account › Settings. For anything else, write to us (see Contact). You can also lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (dataprotectionauthority.be).
Deleting your account
- Log in, then open My account › Settings.
- At the bottom of the page, “Delete my account”: tick the confirmation and enter your password.
The account and all its data (logged walks, personal walks, shoes, calendar) are deleted immediately and permanently. If you can no longer log in, request deletion by email (see Contact) from your account's address.
