The site at a glance

Marcher en Belgique is the free calendar of organised walks in Belgium and neighbouring countries: FFBMP walks, ADEPS Green Points, Wandelsport Vlaanderen walks, W.S.V.O. walks from the German-speaking Community, Euraudax and many more. The calendar is updated every night from the federations' websites.

Anyone can browse the calendar without an account. A free account also lets you keep a calendar of your next walks and a log of all your walks, with your statistics.

Please note: we do not organise walks. The information comes from the federations and clubs; if in doubt (times, start location, cancellation), check with the organiser.

Reading the calendar

The calendar shows one week at a time, day by day. The ‹ and › arrows move to the previous or next week, and the date field lets you pick any day.

One line = one walk

  • The coloured label shows the type of walk (federation or organiser, see below).
  • The small grey code shows the province (HT = Hainaut, NA = Namur, AN = Antwerp…) or the country for a walk abroad.
  • The town in capitals, then the name of the walk.
  • The distances in km and the time of the first start.
  • A cancelled walk is struck through and marked “Cancelled”; it stays listed so that you know.

Finding a walk

Search

The search box at the top of every page (or the search page) finds walks and clubs by town, walk or club name, or club number (for example “HT 89”). Type at least 3 characters; several words narrow the search.

Advanced search

Advanced search combines as many criteria as you like: town or postcode, dates (with shortcuts such as “This weekend” or “7 days”), days of the week, provinces, types of walk, challenge and distance (“between 20 and 30 km”). The “Share this search” button gives a link that reopens exactly the same search.

On your phone

The site adapts to your screen. To open it like an app, use “Add to Home Screen” in your browser menu.

The walk page

  • Distances and start location, with the address and the IGN map number when known.
  • Directions opens Google Maps with the route to the start; View on Google Maps shows the place.
  • The map only loads when you click “Show map”, because Google then sets cookies. Tick “Always show maps” to skip this click (for 12 months, on this device).
  • Practical information: date, start times, organiser (with a link to the club page), type of walk, entry fee, challenges.
  • Calendar (.ics) adds the walk to the calendar on your phone or computer; Share sends the link to the page.

At the bottom of the page you will find the other walks on the same day.

Challenges, clubs and announcements

Challenges (top menu): each challenge has its own page with its upcoming walks or those of a given year. When logged in, you see your progress: the challenge walks you have already logged. “Long distances” groups the walks over 42 km.

Clubs: the directory of clubs, with their details, upcoming walks and the history of the walks they organised.

Announcements: events, multi-day walks and news from the clubs, which you can filter by month or province.

Creating an account

Click Log in at the top right, then Create an account: a username, an email address and a password of at least 8 characters are all you need. Your address is only used to log in and to reset your password; it is never shown.

  • Registered on the previous site? Your account, password and all your walks have been kept.
  • Keep me logged in: tick the box when logging in so you don't have to log in again on this device.
  • Forgot password: enter your username or email address; you will receive a link valid for 1 hour (check your spam folder too).

My calendar

In the calendar or on a walk page, click the star ☆ of a walk to add it to My calendar; click again to remove it. Your calendar lists your next walks and reminds you of recent ones you have not logged yet.

Subscribe to my calendar: paste the link shown into Google Calendar (“From URL”), Outlook or your iPhone (“Add calendar”): your starred walks appear there and stay up to date. Keep this link to yourself; you can generate a new one at any time.

Logging a walk

After a walk, open its page and click I walked it (the button appears from the day of the walk). You can also start from My walks › Log from the calendar.

  • Distances walked: say how many times you did each route (twice 12 km: enter 2), or another distance.
  • Actual km (optional): the distance measured by your watch or phone, if it differs from the official one.
  • Time in hours, minutes and seconds, elevation gain, weather, what you drank and ate, comments: all optional.
  • Shoes: tick the pair or pairs you wore. Without km, the distance is shared between the ticked pairs.

A walk outside the calendar (stroll, holiday hike…): My walks › Add a personal walk. Only you can see it, and it counts in your statistics.

To correct or delete an entry, click the walk in My walks. A cancelled walk cannot be logged.

My walks, statistics and shoes

My walks: your log, year by year, with distances, time and average speed.

My statistics: your total kilometres and per year, the number of walks by type and the totals by distance. In that last table each walk counts once: its distances are added up (10 + 5 = 15 km), then rounded to the nearest 5 km. Click a line to see the matching walks.

My shoes: record your pairs (brand, model, colour, km walked before recording them) to follow their mileage. A worn-out pair can be “retired”; a pair already used is archived rather than deleted, so your totals stay right.

Account settings

  • Club: your club, if it is in the directory.
  • Carried-over km: kilometres walked outside the walks listed on this site, added to your overall total.
  • Email address: a change is confirmed through a link sent to the new address (valid for 48 hours).
  • Password: can be changed at any time with your current password.
  • Delete my account: permanently deletes your logged walks, personal walks, shoes and calendar.

Frequently asked questions

A walk is missing or some information is wrong.

The calendar uses the data published by the federations: the quickest fix goes through the organiser or its federation. You can also write to us through the Contact link.

Is the walk really taking place?

A cancelled walk is marked as soon as the information is published. A last-minute cancellation may still be missing: if in doubt (weather, roadworks), check with the club. The Facebook group often shares this kind of news.

I cannot log a walk.

Logging is possible from the day of the walk, not before, and never for a cancelled walk. For a walk that is not in the calendar, add a personal walk.

I don't receive the forgotten password email.

Check your spam folder. The link is valid for 1 hour: after that, ask again. If several accounts share the same address, log in with your username.

What happens to my data?

Your walks, statistics and shoes are only visible to you. Your email address is never shown or shared. You can delete your account at any time in the settings.

Is the site available in French and Dutch?

Yes: choose FR, NL or EN at the top right. Walk names stay as given by the organisers.
